Strandwood Roadrunners Celebrate Earth Day!

Welcome and thank you for visiting our site. The Strandwood PTA is a group of active parents and teachers who work together, with support from our school and community, to sponsor and manage over 50 special programs and events. We are dedicated to improving and enriching the educational experience of every student here at Strandwood Elementary.

Message from the principal:

Dear Parents,

As many of you know, our third-fifth grade students will begin state testing on May 1st. We do encourage you to discuss the CAASPP at home. Please remind nervous test takers that these assessments are adaptive and the questions get harder when you do better. Feeling challenged is a good sign!

Also, please note that current research tells us that most students actually DO WORSE ON THE TEST when reminded to, “Try your best!” This decline in scores seems to be related to fear-based conclusions people tend to draw (E.g., “Maybe this test will show that I’m not smart.”) Instead, please remind students that the CAASPP is used state-wide to refine our Common Core Standards and help us cultivate our pedagogies. It does not determine how smart or capable students are or measure an individual’s potential. Feel free to stop by my office or visit www.CAASPP.org for more information.

Thank you,

Cheri Scripter, Principal
