Outdoor Ed
Sempervirens Outdoor School is located in the Santa Cruz mountains near Big Basin Redwoods State Park. Sempervirens takes a hands-on, experiential approach to science education, and focuses on adventure, self discovery and environmental stewardship.
The learning experience at Sempervirens is interdisciplinary, incorporating science, math, art, music and writing into daily activities.
While students discover the forest and marine habitats, they learn about interdependence, and about establishing connections to the earth.
Through group living and working together at our challenge course and in other aspects of our program, students learn about each other and what it means to be part of a community.
Evening activities include a night hike with astronomy, a mock town hall meeting, the famous ENH Barnyard Boogie and a skit night, in which each cabin works together to create a short skit about their cabin’s endangered species.
Every evening ends with music and stories by a campfire.
