For many children, The Nutcracker will be the only live stage experience they will ever participate in during their formative school years. Starting in Kindergarten as little mice, they are nervous and tentative to step on stage. In third grade, more than half of the girls audition for the coveted role of Clara. Although only three are chosen, the other girls are equally excited to dress for the “Party Scene,” "Wind Up Dolls" or “Chinese Tea." By the time the kids reach 5th grade, they are more than ready to assume the lead role of Drosselmeyer or The Nutcracker. When asked what is their favorite part of Strandwood, the majority of our kids will say “The Nutcracker”.
2016 show - basic info
Rehearsals for the 2016 show are well underway. By now you should know which show and what dance your child is performing. A list of the Show that each K-2 Class is performing in can be found here. If you have any questions about either of these, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Costume basics for each dance can be found here. If you need any help with costume basics, please contact nutcracker email@example.com The costume closet will be open every Tuesday and Thursday after school.
Each performer will receive two (2) tickets to the show they are performing in. If you have one child performing in Show 1 and one child performing in Show 2, you will receive two tickets to EACH show. If you have two kids in Show 1, you will receive four tickets to Show 1. If you would like to request additional tickets, please email firstname.lastname@example.org. Extra seat requests are limited to two seats per family and cannot be guaranteed.
Preorder your 2016 Strandwood Nutcracker DVD or Blu-Ray. Preorders received BEFORE December 12, 2016 will be delivered to your student BEFORE our holiday break. Orders received AFTER December 12, 2016, will be delivered AFTER our holiday break. Copies of previous shows from 2010 on are also available. Please click here for preorder form. PERFORmance day: saturday, December 3rd, 2016
Please drop off AND pick up your child as follows, NO LATER THAN 45 MINUTES PRIOR TO SHOW TIME, in their costume basics, with hair styled as described according to their dance info. We provide make-up, additional costume, props.
- 1st to 5th Grade Students: Please drop off AND pick up your child at the check-in table by the gate located by the school office.
- Kindergarten Students: Please drop off AND pick up your child at their assigned classroom
Your child will be supervised at all times, by volunteer Dressing Room parent(s). No other parents are allowed in the Dressing Rooms (classrooms) at any time on Performance day. NO CHILD WILL BE DISMISSED FROM A CLASSROOM UNTIL THE END OF THE PERFORMANCE. NO EXCEPTIONS! THIS IS FOR THE SAFETY OF ALL CHILDREN.
Parent volunteers needed
We need over 100 parent volunteers to pull off this special event - whether you have a little time to spare or a lot, we can find a job just right for you.
*Remember that adult volunteers that will be working with student performers must be cleared through the School District (TB tested and fingerprinted).
